January 2012 Newsletter

Welcome back, hope everyone had a good break and are fit and well for the coming half term.

Our main ‘theme’ is ‘Our Environment’.  We will look at where we live, our local town along with nature and weather, as well as celebrating Chinese New Year.  Any books or other resources will be most welcome. We hope to go on some walks on Thursday 2nd February (details to follow). We will also be covering ‘People Who Help Us’, houses & homes.  The Open Day is on Wednesday January 25th, please let your friends with Pre-School age children know.

Our letters of the week are ‘g, o, u, l, f and b’. These are the third group in the Jolly Phonics scheme. Letter worksheets are available in a folder in the entrance to take home and practice the sounds and actions.

Our travelling bears, Baxter and Beatrice are collecting invitations and are ready to visit children at home. They will only visit if they are invited. They both like pictures and drawings.

Don’t forget to add things to our WOW folder, (bright yellow, near the door with WOW written on it. This is a way for you to tell us of your child’s achievements, funny stories, important events and can be added to your child’s ‘Special Book’ – this can be a quick scribble or a photo, drawing etc. Your child’s records are here to be looked at, please ask to see them when you stay and play or have a few minutes to spare when dropping off. If you have any concerns about your child, then please speak to their key-person or any member of staff.

We need to complete forms for Nursery Education Funding for this term (up ‘til April), which requires your signature.  Eligible children are those who had their 3rd birthday on or before 31st December 2011.    If this is your first claim with Playgroup then we will need to see some proof of date of birth, passport, birth certificate etc (of your child not you!).

We have a student from Ilkley Grammar School, who would like to work in childcare joining us on a Wednesday.

We finish for one week on 10th February, returning on Monday 20th February.

And finally, don’t forget to check our website brplaygroup.com for lots of information including snow closures – you can now even follow us on Twitter!.Check it out.

Committee News  -  January 2012

We hope you’ve all had a good Christmas.  For those of you fortunate enough to attend, what a fabulous way to end the term with the nativity play and Christmas party. A massive thank you to all of the staff for their hard work in producing a memorable end to the year.

During November and December, members of the committee were very busy with various fundraising events. These included organising the Christmas shopping night, selling Christmas puddings and tea towels, providing refreshments at the recent cross country event and arranging the raffle at the nativity. DVD copies of the nativity are now available to order.  Please let a member of staff know if you would like one (or more!). They are £2 each, payment due with order. Thank you.

The hard work of the committee and your very generous support has helped raise funds of over £1200. Thank you to all of you who have contributed to these events, either by giving your time or hard earned cash, it is much appreciated. So far, Preschool and the children have benefited by purchasing a new climbing frame and slide, a digging bed, shelving for the ‘garage’ and blinds.

If you are feeling rather jaded after all of the excitement and hard work over the festive period, please look out for ticket sales for our next fundraising event- our Pamper Night which will be held on Friday 16th March.

Thank you to all of you who have completed the recent survey. The committee and staff are committed to providing childcare which mirrors the needs of local families. We are in the process of collating the results of the survey and will be having discussions and making some decisions at our committee meeting next week so watch this space! We are also looking at how we can work even more closely with Ben Rhydding Primary School, in particular the transition phase for children starting school in September. Of course we will also continue our good links with the other Primary School’s in the area.  If you have any thoughts on how this could be done, please grab Tricia, Peggy, Jane or Suzanne.

We wish you all a happy New Year and look forward to another successful term.

Thank you from all the committee.
